Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these pacerpoles talked about in the nras mag.

Can't imagine using them for shoping etc. Get myself in enough of a tangle with my walking stick!!!

Wondered if they might help me just getting about the village better. I use my scooter mostly for longer trips but I think I can put up with looking a real plonker walking around with what look like hiking poles if it helps me more than my stick! Just worried that they may make my shoulders and elbows ache as they seem to require a lot of effort for those parts.

hi Zena,

saw them in the NRAS Mag and can't imagine me using them.

i also don't get on very well with my walking stick ( Osteo in both knee's ), especially if am am looking around shops with my handbag in the other hand, i find i have to hook my stick under my elbow to take things like clothes off the racks to view.

i wait for Hubby to push me in my wheelchair if we go to shopping malls and the like, i can manage Tesco's as long as i have a small trolley to hold onto and push.

I looked at them and thought what a jolly good idea they are, bit too pricey at the moment though. It would be lovely to take my dogs out into the countryside which is lovely round here
Would be interested in how others get on with them

Hi all - I haven't seen the new mag - mine hasn't arrive yet! But if you're talking about hiking poles, I think they're brilliant! They do cause a bit of extra weight on hands and wrists so might not suit everyone, but for me they help by propelling me forward. That's something my feet should do, but because of my bent toes and fallen arches, it normally hurts if I have to walk far. But with the poles I can walk further and faster and feel less knackered - I was delighted with myself last weekend at a local horsey show, I managed to walk up and down the long field several times and still felt great - they give me confidence that I can balance even walking on rough grass. I used to use them all the time, but now my mtx is working I only use them if I want to walk the dog or go for a long distance - they've been my quality of lifesaver

ps they're simpler than a stick cos they have straps around the handles so if I let them go they just hang there and let me get my purse out etc. I do find that it's annoying to carry a normal handbag so I got one that sits across my chest leaving my hands free for the poles

Thanks Sylvia, not sure if the poles have straps or not, but good to hear you talking possitively about yours.
There are tips about how to walk properly with the pacerpoles on their site and a video, though the user looks very fast and able bodied!!
Just wondering if I can manage the dog on his lead with the sticks, you manage O.K. He is only a little Westie, and is easy most of the time but can pull if he spots squirrels etc.!
Haven't looked how much yet, may be the decider!!

BigGrin hello everyone

I hope you don't mind me asking, does anyone have a link for the poles?

I would like to take a look, I'm like Sylvia - haven't received autumn brochure yet.

See if they be better than my sticks!

Thank you.
